Turbomachinery theory, performance, and analysis made accessible with a new, unified approach
For the first time in nearly three decades, here is a completely up-to-date and unified approach to turbomachinery fluid dynamics and aerothermodynamics. Combining the latest advances, methods, and approaches in the field, Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer of Turbomachinery features:
Broad in scope, yet concise, and drawing on the author's teaching experience and research projects for government and industry, Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer of Turbomachinery explains and simplifies an increasingly complex field. It is an invaluable resource for undergraduate and graduate students in aerospace and mechanical engineering specializing in turbomachinery, for research and design engineers, and for all professionals who are—or wish to be—at the cutting edge of this technology.
BUDUGUR LAKSHMINARAYANA is an Evan Pugh Professor of Aerospace Engineering, the highest honor bestowed on a faculty member at Pennsylvania State University. He is also the Director of the Center for Gas Turbines and Power. Dr. Lakshminarayana has more than thirty years of teaching, research, and consulting experience in turbomachinery aerodynamics, acoustics, and heat transfer; analytical, computational, and experimental fluid dynamics; aerospace propulsion; gas turbines; and turbulence modeling. He was instrumental in developing the Computational Fluid Dynamics Program at Penn State and directed this program from 1981 to 1987.
A Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Dr. Lakshminarayana has received many awards and honors, including the 1994 AIAA Air Breathing Propulsion Award, 1989 AIAA Pendray Aerospace Literature Award, 1990 ASME Freeman Scholar Award, and Advisory Professorships from the Shanghai Jaio Tong University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Engineering Thermophysics. He was visiting faculty member at MIT, University of Cambridge, University of Aachen, Ecole Centrale de Lyon, Indian Institute of Science, and NASA Ames Research Center. He has been a consultant to the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Division of United Technologies, Teledyne CAE Turbine Engine Division, the U.S. Navy, Allied Signal (Garrett) Company, Rolls Royce, General Motors Corporation, and Societe Europeene de Propulsion.
