Newton and Newtonianism: Critical Perspectives on a Global Legacy complicates that picture. Bringing together previously unpublished research, the volume follows Newton's ideas as they travelled across disciplines and continents, and shows how differently they were received in each setting: embraced, reworked, absorbed into local traditions, or actively opposed.

Its chapters range from natural theology in the Scottish Enlightenment and anti-Trinitarian physics to the uses of Newton in the Neogranadian Enlightenment, the observatories of South Asia, and the philosophical culture of the Greek-speaking world.

The volume appears in 2027, three hundred years after Newton's death in 1727, and that tercentenary is more than an occasion: it is an invitation to reassess a figure whose global authority has too often been assumed rather than examined. As the history of science takes its global turn, this collection treats Newton's legacy not as a monolith but as a set of local negotiations. It will appeal to historians of science and intellectual historians, as well as to a broader academic readership.

Derya Gürses Tarbuck is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Bahçeşehir University, Istanbul, where she works on the history of science and intellectual history.
