It explores patterns of settlement, family lives, professional careers, political engagement, cultural achievements and societal impact.

While the historiography of Polish diaspora within individual countries is relatively rich and includes publications in both the Polish language and in local languages, there is little exchange between the countries on this topic in languages other than Polish. This collection of English-language essays supports the interconnected discourse among the subsequent diasporic generations and the international academic community of migration and diaspora studies. Processes of acculturation and the assimilation of immigrant generations as well as efforts towards and forms of maintaining the Polish identity are discussed against the background of historical and current developments in both Poland and the host countries, including the war in Ukraine.

The book will interest students and scholars of migration history, diasporic history, ethnic history, and Polish/Eastern European studies.

Adam Walaszek, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of History at the Jagiellonian University.
