When and where did the concept originate? Are its intellectual pillars of reason and objectivity forces for liberation, or oppression? How has it dealt with questions of race and religion? Should the concept be 'decolonised'? A team of international contributors explore these questions from a historical and philosophical perspective, also examining the topics of Eurocentrism, the impact of colonization, the work of Immanuel Kant and perspectives from Southeast Asian and Islamic philosophy.

Questioning ‘Western Philosophy’: Philosophical, Historical, and Historiographical Challenges will appeal to researchers and advanced students of philosophy working in areas such as the history of philosophy, political philosophy, Eastern philosophy, philosophy of religion, and intellectual history.

Lea Cantor is a Lecturer in Philosophy at King’s College London, UK.
