Current scholarship argues that such techniques of argumentation are a Platonic invention, but Johan Tralau claims that these forms of argumentation have a fascinating prehistory originating in Homer and early Hittite sources, such as a late Bronze Age Gilgamesh fragment.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis study then moves on to look at the works of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides who, Tralau argues, have the greatest role in the development of argumentation. The result is a presentation of the history of normative argument as well as a number of fresh interpretations of some of the most important ancient Greek authors.
