A Practitioner's Handbook - Activity Book
Jenn Clark | Gavin Reid
Ready-to-use activities for supporting children and young people with dyslexia
Teachers working with dyslexic learners need practical, research-grounded activities they can implement immediately. Dyslexia: A Practitioners Handbook Activity Book provides twelve to fifteen one-page activities per chapter, each with clear rationales linking directly to current research. Written by a psychologist with forty books on dyslexia and an experienced Orton Gillingham practitioner, this companion volume translates theory into classroom-ready practice.
Designed to accompany the Dyslexia Practitioners Handbook, each chapter opens with an introduction connecting activities to the handbook's corresponding research. Activities cover a wide range of areas relevant to dyslexic learners, such as executive functioning, spelling, writing, home support, and study skills, and include follow-up work for extended practice. The accessible format allows specialist teachers, mainstream educators, and parents to use materials without extensive preparation or adaptation.
You'll also discover:
- Full-page activities presented in accessible formats that classroom teachers and specialist practitioners can photocopy and use immediately with learners
- Clear rationales for each activity explaining the research basis and learning objectives to help educators understand why specific approaches work
- Follow-up exercises extending initial activities to reinforce skills and provide additional practice opportunities for children and young people
- Structured activities addressing executive functioning challenges that frequently accompany dyslexia and affect learning across multiple subject areas
- Connections to comprehensive handbook chapters allowing practitioners to deepen understanding of theoretical foundations behind each practical activity
Classroom teachers, specialist educators, and parents supporting children and young people with dyslexia will find this activity book bridges research and daily practice. The ready-to-use format and clear rationales make it valuable for both experienced practitioners and those newer to structured literacy approaches.
