In\u003cbr\u003ethis book, Simon deBourcier looks in detail at Pynchon's 2006 novel Against\u003cbr\u003ethe Day, which is set during the period in which Einstein published his\u003cbr\u003eworld-changing theory, and 1997's Mason \u0026amp; Dixon, set in the\u003cbr\u003eeighteenth century when Isaac Newton's picture of a world governed by absolute\u003cbr\u003espace and time was unchallenged. By comparing these two novels, Pynchon and\u003cbr\u003eRelativity shows that Pynchon's tales of loss, haunting, and time travel\u003cbr\u003eare informed by a sophisticated awareness of the philosophical implications of\u003cbr\u003eRelativity.
