Industrial Flow Measurement is a practical, well-illustrated guide that introduces engineers and technicians to the processes of measuring liquid and gas flow in industrial systems. Written for readers from technicians to managers, this book explains fluid properties (temperature, pressure, viscosity and density), performance measures (accuracy, repeatability and turndown) and how environmental and piping conditions affect measurements. It reviews the major flowmeter technologies, including differential pressure, magnetic, Coriolis mass, ultrasonic, vortex, positive displacement, turbine, thermal and open-channel methods, providing clear descriptions of how each works, typical applications, sizing and installation guidance and maintenance concerns.
This book emphasizes practical selection procedures, calibration and real-world constraints, enabling users to choose the best meter for a given process. This edition includes exercises, examples and reference data that serve as useful resources for anyone involved in industrial flow measurement and selection.
David William Spitzer is a principal of Spitzer and Boyes, LLC, where he is a consultant practicing instrumentation, flow, measurement, and process control engineering. In addition, he provides product development, marketing, and distribution channel services. He was previously the Manager of Utility and Instrumentation Engineering at Nepera, Inc., Harriman, NY, where he was responsible for technical support and direction in the electrical, instrumentation, and utility areas on a plant-wide basis.
Mr. Spitzer serves on the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' Committee on Measurement of Fluid Flow in Closed Conduits. He is also a member of the editorial advisory board of INTECH, INTECH Brasil, and Flow Control magazines.
A frequent instructor at the ISA Training Center in Raleigh, NC, and throughout the United States and internationally in the Short Course Program, Mr. Spitzer is the author of Variable Speed Drives, Principles and Applications for Energy Cost Savings. He is also Volume Editor of Flow Measurement, part of ISA's Practical Guides for Instrumentation and Control Series and author of various books about flowmeters in "The Consumer's Guide to..." series.
