Within WHO, she served as Assistant Regional Director, Director of Non-Communicable Diseases at the regional office, WHO Country Representative in Malawi and Coordinator of the Inter-Country Support Teamfor the South and East African countries of WHO African Region. As a public health veteran, with more than 35 years of national and international experience, she was the first woman to be elected as WHO Regional Director for Africa in 2015.
