Bio-Based Materials for NZEB Buildings

Angelica Rocco

Computers / Artificial Intelligence / General

This book introduces a three-level model—Material, Design, and Life—linking digital modeling with environmental assessment and life-cycle analysis. Digital Twin Supporting Blockchain in the AEC Sector. Bio-Based Materials for nZEB Buildings explores how advanced digital technologies can drive sustainability in architecture and construction. Angelica Rocco presents an innovative framework combining Digital Twin, Blockchain, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) to enhance the design and management of nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB). Emphasizing bio-based composite materials made from raw earth and natural fibers, it bridges traditional techniques and contemporary innovation. Offering both theoretical insights and practical tools, this book supports researchers and professionals in advancing the ecological and digital transition toward a more resilient and sustainable built environment.

Angelica Rocco, PhD, is a researcher at the Department of Architecture (DiARC), University of Naples Federico II, Italy. She earned her PhD in 2025 at the same university, where she also carried out part of her research at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Aveiro, Portugal. She holds a Second Level Master’s degree in Architecture and Design for Internal Areas (Arìnt) and a Master’s degree in Building Engineering Architecture, both from DiARC.Her research focuses on Digital Twins, Blockchain, bio-based materials, nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEB), BIM, architectural technology, and cybernetic urban planning, with a strong emphasis on sustainable development, circular economy, and the reduction of environmental impacts throughout the building life cycle. She serves as a reviewer for international journals such as Building and Sustainable Cities and Society and takes part in national and international research projects on digital innovation applied to architecture and the planning of urban and rural inner areas.
