This proceedings book comprises papers on mathematical modeling presented at the 10th International Conference and Workshop on Basic and Applied Sciences (ICOWOBAS), held in Johor Bahru, Indonesia, from May 5 to 7, 2025. Following the conference's theme of promoting innovative science for a smarter and sustainable future, the works within this book were especially selected to cover applications in topics related to sustainable issues, such as good health, clean water, and industry innovation, where mathematical modeling plays a key role.
Since its first edition in 2007, the ICOWOBAS has gradually become a place where scientists from around the world gather to discuss the role of research in addressing global challenges. By fostering the integration between basic and applied sciences, this conference and its proceedings book can be of interest to researchers, scholar, industry professionals, and students interested in the emerging trends in science and technology.
Sharian Shafie is Professor at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He holds a Ph.D. (2005) and a master's in mathematics (1996) from the same institution. His field of specialization is mathematical modeling of boundary layers (heat and mass transfer). Throughout his career, Dr. Shafie has supervised over 20 Ph.D. students and has led several research projects on fluid mechanics.
Ahmad Fadillah Embong is Senior Lecturer at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He completed his Ph.D. studies in mathematics (2019) at the International Islamic University Malaysia under the supervision of Dr. Farrukh Mukhamedov and Dr. Chin Hee Pah. His areas of expertise are dynamical systems and nonlinear analysis.
Noraihan Afiqah Rawi is Senior Lecturer at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She holds a Ph.D. (2018) and a master's in mathematics (2015) from the same university. Her research focuses on fluid mechanics, particularly heat and mass transfer problem, boundary layer flow, nanofluid flow, and Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids.
