Transforming African Economies

Lessons from Ethiopia

Sumit Roy

Business & Economics / Development / Economic Development

This book provides unique insight into the Ethiopian economy and the political economy challenges it faces. With a particular focus on the rise and fall of the EPRDF, it explores the ways in which African economies can overcome historical and political setbacks to induce  economic growth and transformation. By examining the defining policies of the EPRDF and changes made by the PP, the ways in which African countries can generate growth, develop democracy, tackle internal conflict, and bolster regional and international relations are outlined.

This book draws from the experiences of Ethiopia to offer a pathway for African  transformation. It will be relevant to students, researchers, and policymakers interested in development economics, economic policy, and the political economy of Africa.

Sumit Roy is a former Senior Economist at the UN Economic Commission for Africa. He holds a  DPhil in Development Studies from the University of Sussex. He is author of Globalisation, ICT and Developing Nations, Sage and co-author (with Sir H. W. Singer) of Economic Progress and Prospects in the Third World, Edward Elgar.
