Abdo Hassoun, Ph.D., is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable AgriFoodtech Innovation & Research (SAFIR), a non-profit research organization he founded in 2021 that collaborates with academic and industrial partners worldwide. He is also an independent researcher and scientific consultant. Dr. Hassoun earned his bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Aleppo, a master's degree from Blaise Pascal University, and his Ph.D. from Lille University of Science and Technology in 2007, 2011, and 2016, respectively. Following his doctorate, he joined the Norwegian Food Research Institute (Nofima) as a postdoctoral researcher, where he worked from 2017 to 2020. He also served at Université du Littoral Côte d ‘Opale (ULCO) during 2022 and 2023. His research spans emerging food trends, Industry 4.0 and 5.0 technologies, food loss and waste reduction, innovative processing and analytical methods, and broader sustainability issues. With more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and reviews published in leading international journals, as well as numerous book chapters and edited volumes, Dr. Hassoun remains a leading voice in advancing sustainable and intelligent food systems.
