The Educational Psychology of Undergraduate College Students

Understanding Student Development

Pat Reid

Education / Educational Psychology

This book emphasizes the educational implications and applications of theories and principles as they influence the undergraduate college student. While substantive research has been collected on the educational psychology of the child learner and adult learner, there is a lack of research targeting undergraduate students. This book therefore fills this gap by providing instructors and trainers with an understanding of the mental models, neuroscientific changes, and assumptions about learning responsibilities and approaches specifically relating to undergraduate college students. It collects and presents theories of student development written by college instructors who have previously taught and written about the educational psychology of adults and children. These instructors have applied their subject matter expertise to their daily work and now provide important, research-based theories and approaches to help other instructors understand, appreciate, and reach undergraduate college students, with a focus on the application of educational psychology to everyday teaching.
