This open access book contains the proceedings of (WM)² the World Meeting for Women in Mathematics 2022, texts related to the first Olga Alexandrovna Ladyzhenskaya (OAL) award, an overview of initiatives for a more inclusive mathematical community, and interviews related to artistic expressions of women in mathematics.
The first part contains mathematical contributions by Natalia V. Maslova and Eugenia Malinnikova, two of the invited lecturers at (WM)², and the report of the panel discussion Girls and Mathematics: Reflections and Initiatives, dedicated to the memory of Yulia Zdanovska, with panelists from Bulgaria, Colombia, India, Japan, Nigeria, and United States. The second part devoted to the first OAL award includes essays on the life and mathematics of OAL, an address by Ingrid Daubechies presenting the OAL prize and a mathematical paper by Svetlana Jitomirskaya, the OAL prize winner. The following chapters explore the global May 12 initiative, celebrating women in mathematics every year since 2019, and specific networks for women in mathematics in Brazil and in Asia and Oceania. Chapters on black heroes of mathematics and the gender gap among scientists in Africa complete this third part. The last part features interviews with Constanza Rojas-Molina, mathematician and illustrator, Ekaterina Eremenko, director of the OAL film, Sylvie Paycha on her portrait exhibitions of Women Mathematicians, and Thais Jordao, curator of the Remember Maryam Mirzakhani exhibition.
