This edited book examines inclusive education leadership beyond tokenistic compliance, arguing for an Inclusion Nexus – a multi-level approach that integrates inside-out growth, bottom-up empowerment and system-level coherence. Drawing on inclusive leadership, psychological and culturally responsive frameworks, the chapters combine theory, praxis and empirical studies to explore tensions between policy rhetoric and the realities in educational institutions across the different levels of education systems. Case studies from Malta and other settings are placed alongside international research perspectives to illustrate strategies for neurodivergent, culturally diverse and marginalised learners. Offering critical diagnoses and actionable pathways, this volume provides academics, educators and leaders with evidence-informed tools to ensure an inclusive educational environment where every individual belongs.
This book supports both experienced and new educators, as well as other interested readers, by providing insights into discussions and practices that help develop solutions tailored to their specific contexts. It emphasises placing the learner at the centre of education, enabling leaders and educators to respond to diversity and equity issues with greater focus, intention, and success.” -- Victor Martinelli, Faculty of Education, University of Malta
“In an era of hyper-diversity, this book provides a vital framework for redefining leadership as the ethical foundation of educational practice. Moving beyond traditional models, the volume employs an intersectional lens to address the complex interplay of culture, gender, neurodiversity, and ability. Across the expertly crafted chapters, the authors bridge the chronic disjuncture between policy and praxis, offering practical strategies for distributed and culturally responsive leadership. By prioritising authentic student and parental voices and collaborative partnerships, this book serves as an essential resource for fostering belonging and equity in contemporary educational communities.” -- Phyllisienne Vassallo Gauci, Faculty of Education, University of Malta
