This Open Access book describes the DYNABIC project outcomes and how they solve major challenges in the development and operation of resilient critical infrastructures.

Essential services of today’s modern societies rely on Critical Infrastructures (CIs). These are large and complex cyber-physical systems (CPS) that provide critical and essential goods and services to citizens. CIs services do not operate in isolation, they are interconnected with other infrastructures, which allows disruptions to propagate. Due to their criticality, these infrastructures are becoming a key target for attacks, yet they need to ensure maximum business continuity and high resilience in the face of hazards.

Thereby, a fundamental research question is “how can we enhance CIs capabilities to effectively prevent, mitigate, and recover from incidents in a context in which (i) human factors, (ii) collaboration of heterogeneous organizations during the CI development of operation, and (iii) interconnections between CIs must be considered?”

The answer to these questions has formed the core of the DYNABIC Horizon Europe Project. The overall ambition of DYNABIC is “to deliver new socio-technical methods, models, and tools to support resilience through holistic business continuity risk management and control in operation, and dynamic adaptation of responses at system, human and organization planes”. To achieve this, DYNABIC adopts and extends the SecDevOps approach employed for other Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) systems to ensure a continuum of care.

Jason Mansell is a Project Manager at the DIGITAL Operational Unit of Tecnalia, managing research and innovation projects focused on CPS, cybersecurity, and Blockchain. Among the most recent projects he has led are DYNABIC: Dynamic business continuity of critical infrastructures on top of adaptive multi-level cybersecurity (HORIZON - GA 101070455) and KYKLOS 4.0: An Advanced Circular and Agile Manufacturing Ecosystem based on rapid reconfigurable manufacturing process and individualized consumer preferences (H2020 – GA 872570) 2020-2024.

Eider Iturbe is a senior researcher in the Cybersecurity team at the Digital Unit of Tecnalia Research & Innovation in Spain. She specializes in various areas of cybersecurity, including risk management, intrusion detection, incident response, cyber threat intelligence, and the application of artificial intelligence in cybersecurity. With over 15 years of experience in R&D&I and technology transfer projects in ICT and Cybersecurity, Eider has participated in 15 international research projects, where she has served as both a senior researcher and technical manager. Among her most recent projects, she has served as the technical manager and technology provider for the European projects DYNABIC (Dynamic Business Continuity of Critical Infrastructures on Top of Adaptive Multi-Level Cybersecurity, HORIZON - GA 101070455) and AI4CYBER (Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence for Cybersecurity Reinforcement and System Resilience, HORIZON - GA 101070450).

Victor Muntés-Mulero is the Co-founder and CEO of Beawre, an award-winning startup transforming the construction sector through continuous, non-intrusive risk control. Previously, he was Vice President of Research at CA Technologies, where he led global strategic research initiatives and earned multiple innovation awards. With over 80 peer-reviewed publications, 20+ patents, and a background as associate professor and tech entrepreneur, Víctor blends deep academic expertise with impactful industry leadership.

Nicolas Ferry is an associate professor at University Côte d'Azur. Prior to this, he was a senior researcher at SINTEF. His research interests include model-driven engineering, domain-specific languages, digital twin applied to the Internet of Things and Cloud Computing domains. He has actively contributed to various national and international research projects such as the REMICS, MC-Suite, MODAClouds, and Fleet. He was the technical manager of the ENACT H2020 project and is leading the dissemination and exploitation work package in DYNABIC.

Erkuden Rios is Technology Manager at the Digital Unit of TECNALIA Research & Innovation in Spain. For over 23 years she has led and coordinated national and European Cybersecurity R&D projects focused on security and privacy research.  She has participated in more than 30 projects, and coordinated 8 of them, including Horizon Europe projects such as AI4CYBER, DYNABIC, NOTIONES, etc. Her expertise includes AI technologies for cybersecurity, resilience, trustworthiness of AI, cyber risk analysis, and security and privacy technologies for ICT systems (particularly critical infrastructures and cloud systems) and for Law Enforcement. Erkuden collaborates with technological platforms and fora such as ECSO, ETSI SAI WG on secure AI, FIRST Secure AI, EARTO WGSD, ENISA and PTE Disruptive. Erkuden is author of multiple papers on cybersecurity, privacy, risk management, AI for cyber resilience, and Trustworthy AI.

Erkuden holds a Telecommunications Engineering degree (1997) and a Ph.D. in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (2020), both from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).
