His surgical training was at the Massachusetts General Hospital with an interim year of thoracic surgery in the National Health Service in Bristol (Frenchay Hospital with Mr. HRH Belsey) and Southampton (Southampton Chest Hospital), England. He then completed his general and cardiac surgical training at the Massachusetts General. Finally, he trained for one year in congenital heart surgery at the Boston Childrens Hospital under Dr. Robert E. Gross. He remained on staff there until 5 years later when he was recruited to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to start a new program in congenital heart surgery at the Childrens Hospital. He was Director there for 28 years. He has 2 daughters and he and his wife now live in Boca Raton, Florida. \u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMichael Mitchell\u003c\/strong\u003e was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Carmel, Indiana. He attended Princeton University, where he rowed on the Lightweight Crew Team, before attending Harvard Medical School. He completed his General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital under Dr. Lawrence H. Cohn, Dr. Richard A. Jonas, and Dr. Pedro del Nido, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia under Dr. Thomas L. Spray. He begain his career with Dr. Erle H. Austin III at Kosair Children’s Hospital and the University of Louisville before being recruited to Milwaukee by Dr. James S. Tweddell and Dr. S. Bert Litwin. He has now practiced in Milwaukee for 20 years and has been a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and served as Director of the program for 4 years.
