Proceedings of the Cambridge Unsteady Flow Symposium, 2026

James Tyacke | Nagabhushana Rao Vadlamani

Technology & Engineering / Mechanical

This book contains the proceedings of the Cambridge Unsteady Flow Symposium, held on 23–24th at the University of Cambridge. This book brings together internationally leading experts in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and promotes discussions on numerical methods for unsteady flows.
This book covers a wide range of topics related to CFD, including but not limited to, large-eddy simulations, unsteady flows in aerospace, high order methods, and mesh generation.

Dr. James C. Tyacke is a senior lecturer in Aerospace Engineering at Brunel University London and co-director of the Aerospace Research Centre (Numerical Methods).  He received his Ph.D. from Swansea University (2009) on unsteady modelling of heat transfer in electronics before joining the University of Cambridge Whittle Laboratory.  His key interests include tackling complex geometry flows using multi-fidelity modelling, heat transfer, aeroacoustics, and high performance computing.  He has developed frameworks for aeroengine turbine flow modelling and installed jet aeroacoustics, recognised in Journal highlights and receiving the best use of ARCHER award 2017.

Dr. Nagabhushana Rao Vadlamani is an associate professor in the propulsion group of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge (2014) and master’s degree in thermal engineering from IIT Madras (2009). Rao’s research interests include eddy-resolving simulations in turbomachines, transition to turbulence, high performance computing, and data driven modelling. He was the recipient of the Bowring research fellowship from St. Catharine’s college, Cambridge (2015–18), ASME best paper award from International Gas Turbine Institute, IGTI in 2014, NVIDIA Hardware academic grants (2018, 2022) and HPE Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam HPC & AI Award (2026).
