This book is based on empirical research on psychological trauma among journalists covering violent conflicts in East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda). Using mixed methods of symptomatology of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) survey and in-depth interviews with trauma journalists and select psycho-social experts, the book harnesses data that demonstrates the mental health crisis in newsrooms in East Africa. It highlights the dire need to find mitigations to address the adverse effects of trauma and suggests creative approaches that draw from therapy, talk systems, and debriefings.
