This book offers a deep dive into the design and optimization of high-speed analog-to-digital converters used in leading-edge communication, sensing, and computing systems. Covering everything from foundational theory to advanced time-interleaving techniques and machine learning-enhanced designs, the author equips readers with the tools to understand, analyze, and innovate in the fast-evolving world of high-speed ADCs.
Vanessa Chen (Senior Member, IEEE) earned her Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2013. Before joining Carnegie Mellon University, she was affiliated with The Ohio State University. During her doctoral studies at Carnegie Mellon from 2010 to 2013, her research focused on algorithm-assisted techniques for improving energy efficiency and ultra-high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) with on-chip, real-time calibration. In 2012, she was a research intern at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Chen worked as a circuit designer at Qualcomm in San Diego, California, and Realtek in Hsinchu, Taiwan, where she focused on self-healing RF and mixed-signal circuits. Her current research centers on AI-enhanced circuits and systems, including intelligent sensory interfaces, RF/mixed-signal hardware security, and ubiquitous sensing and computing systems.
Dr. Chen received the NSF CAREER Award in 2019 and has been named an Apple New Silicon Initiative (NSI) Faculty Fellow and a Carnegie Mellon University College of Engineering Dean’s Early Career Fellow. She has served on the technical program committees of several leading conferences, including the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC), IEEE Symposium on VLSI Circuits, IEEE Custom Integrated Circuits Conference (CICC), IEEE Asian Solid-State Circuits Conference (A-SSCC), and IEEE/ACM Design Automation Conference (DAC).
She has also served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Regular Papers (TCAS-I), IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems (TBioCAS), and IEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems(OJCAS). In addition, she has contributed as a Guest Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs (TCAS-II) and the ACM Journal on Emerging Technologies in Computing Systems (JETC). She is an IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society Distinguished Lecturer for 2025–2026.
