This book draws on the interdisciplinary expertise of some of the most distinguished and renowned leaders in the fields of head and neck surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology, and many other disciplines in different countries, to provide a comprehensive guide for those treating salivary gland tumors, including residents and junior specialists. It describes the use of the latest cutting-edge technologies in this field, gathering the experience of experts in the geographical areas where the diseases and treatments in question are most prevalent. The purpose of this work is to provide the reader with the knowledge required for the comprehensive, appropriate, and tailored treatment of patients with benign and malignant salivary gland neoplasms, with a specific focus on demolitive and reconstructive surgical techniques, starting from topographical and surgical anatomy, clinical and radiological diagnosis, to adjuvant treatments, post-operative functional and rehabilitative aspects, and the quality of life of the affected patient. Moreover, this book focuses on facial reanimation, a feature of salivary gland tumor treatment that is often involved, and certainly more than many medical practitioners are aware of, as a result of facial nerve damage following parotid gland surgery. A complete and detailed analysis of this very challenging aspect is therefore provided, with in-depth explanations of treatment times, procedural steps, and surgical and rehabilitative techniques. There is also a section dedicated to “special situations” such as salivary gland tumors in pediatric patients, the management of both recurrent tumors and metastases from cutaneous malignancies involving the parotid gland, as well as the approach to parapharyngeal space lesions.

Federico Bolognesi, MD, PhD, is a maxillofacial surgeon who has trained in Italy, India, and the United States.
