José Acácio de Barros holds a BS in Physics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Brazilian Center for Research in Physics. He is currently a full professor of Philosophy at San Francisco State University (SFSU). Before joining SFSU, Dr. de Barros was an Associate Professor in the Physics Department at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, MG, Brazil. He was a visiting scholar at the Brazilian Center for Research in Physics (CBPF) and a Visiting Associate Professor at the Institute of Mathematical Studies in the Social Sciences (IMSSS) and the Center for the Study of Language and Information (CSLI), Stanford University. Most of his research is interdisciplinary, ranging from the foundations and philosophy of physics, especially the foundations of quantum mechanics, to mathematical psychology (including how quantum mechanics' mathematical formalism informs problems outside physics) and the philosophy of mind. He is the author or co-author of nearly a hundred papers. Along with Carlos Montemayor, he edited the book "Quanta and Mind," exploring the connections between quantum theory and the philosophy of mind. He is also a Corresponding Member of the Brazilian Academy of Philosophy.
Federico Hernán Holik holds a Ph.D. in Physics and is a Research Fellow at the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET, Argentina). He is also a Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Hurlingham (UNAHUR, Argentina) and serves as an Associate Editor for the journal Quantum Information Processing. He completed his studies at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and held postdoctoral positions at the Instituto de Física La Plata (Argentina) and Université Paris Diderot (France). His research focuses on various problems in the foundations of quantum mechanics and quantum information theory, specifically studying quantum indistinguishability and the role of the unique structure of quantum probability. Through his work, he aims to bridge the gap between foundational discussions in quantum mechanics and the practical development of modern quantum technologies.
Décio Krause is associated with the Graduate Program of Logic and Metaphysics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is retired as a full professor of both the Department of Philosophy of the Federal University of Santa Catarina and the Department of Mathematics of the Federal University of Paraná, both in the South of Brazil. He got his PhD at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and specialised in logic and the foundations of mathematics. His interests in physics led him to study the foundations of quantum theories. He is the co-author (with Steven French) of the Oxford book "Identity in Physics: a Historical, Philosophical, and Formal Analysis" (2006) and, with Jonas R. B. Arenhart, "The Logical Foundations of Scientific Theories: Languages, Structures, and Models" (Routledge, 2017), and also of other books in Portuguese and has edited several books by Springer, College Pu. and other editorial houses. He is the author or co-author of circa a hundred papers published in scientific journals and as chapters. He was a visiting scholar at the universities of Florence, Leeds, and Oxford and participated and gave conferences at several international meetings. His present interest lies in the metaphysical and logical aspects of quantum theories, in particular in the problem involving the individuality and identity of quantum entities. The basic notion of indistinguishability is one of his preferred subjects. He is also a member of the International Academy of Philosophy of Science, located in Brussels, and a researcher of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
