High-End by Design: Reframing Value in the Age of Sustainability and Digital Intelligence

Xiaozhu Lin | Matteo Oreste Ingaramo

Business & Economics / Industries / General

This book redefines high-end value under the combined pressures of sustainability and digital intelligence. It argues that high-end sectors can no longer rely on inherited prestige based mainly on price, rarity, and symbolic distance. Instead, value must increasingly be redesigned through care, continuity, evidence, and cultural legitimacy. The work shows how sustainability, traceability, repair, aftercare, and digital identity are becoming essential conditions of contemporary high-end value rather than secondary additions to an otherwise stable luxury model. It proposes “better high-end design” as a strategic and methodological framework for understanding this transformation. Central to the argument is a redefinition of high-end value in terms of durability, maintainability, verifiability, transmissibility, and narratability. The book also develops four interconnected design levers, culture-led intent, conscious evaluation, convenience-by-design, and digital intelligence, to explain how stronger forms of value can be created across products, services, and systems. Through case-based analysis, it demonstrates how firms can convert sustainability demands and digital pressures into new forms of cultural, service, and system value.
