The chapters explore ecological, territorial, governance, and institutional approaches, including green infrastructures, industrial ecology, circular landscapes, environmental justice, living labs, and evidence-based governance to show how different combinations of strategies can support sustainable industrial urban transformation across diverse territorial and geo-historical contexts.
By combining theoretical perspectives with practical experiences from different countries, this book provides valuable insights for researchers, planners, policymakers, and practitioners interested in the planning, governance, and transformation of industrial and post-industrial cities. Rather than promoting the replacement of industrial landscapes, it advocates a paradigm shift toward their regeneration, where ecological restoration, industrial heritage and renewal, collective memory, and place identity become complementary dimensions of more resilient, just, and sustainable territories.

Fabiana Fabri is an Associate Professor at Institut Polytechnique UniLaSalle (Rouen, France), where she serves as Chairholder of the Industry & Territories Research Chair (UsinoVerT) and is a member of the InTerACT research unit.
