Advanced Energy Management Strategies for Hydrogen Economy of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles
Ioan Sorin Sorlei | Nicu Bizon
This book provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary exploration of how real-time optimization strategies improve the performance of fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles (FCHEVs). It connects state-of-the-art algorithms and technologies on advanced control, optimization, and diagnostic techniques for FCHEVs. It delves into the basic principles and architectures of FCHEVs, illustrating how real-time data processing, decentralized resource management, and localized control improve the performance of FCHEVs. With a special focus on energy optimization and hydrogen consumption reduction in FCHEVs, the book highlights the essential role of intelligent algorithms implemented in real-time management strategies. It provides a detailed analysis of the implementation and testing of these strategies. Whether you are a researcher, engineer, or automotive professional, this book provides the information and tools needed to design, implement, and validate next-generation intelligent strategies for FCHEVs.
Ioan Sorin Sorlei completed his bachelor's (‘16) and master's (‘18) degrees in mechanical engineering and mechatronics at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. He then went on to complete his Ph.D. (‘25) at the Doctoral School of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology. He currently works as an engineering leader on R&D projects in the automotive sector, specializing in hybrid powertrains. Between 2019 and 2023, he was a research assistant at ICSI RM Vâlcea, working on a series of projects involving hydrogen-based technologies in the ICSI Energy department. In addition, he acquired knowledge in the domains of automotive and energy engineering through his roles as a programmer and a validation equipment specialist. He is the technical chair of the “ECAI” Conference.
Nicu Bizon (IEEE SM’16) received the B.S. (’85) and M.S. (’86) in electronics and a Ph.D. (’96) degrees in automatic and control systems from the University “Polytechnic” of Bucharest. Currently, he is a professor with the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, Pitești University Centre, Romania, and a researcher at ICSI Rm Valcea. He was the dean (‘12–‘17) of the Faculty of Electronics, Communication and Computers, the director of the research center “Modeling and simulation processes and systems” (‘08–‘12), and the head of university research department (‘04–‘08). He is the general chair of the “ECAI” Conference, an associate editor and a member in the Editorial Board of several Journals indexed WOS or Scopus. He received two awards of the Romanian Academy in 2013 and 2016 (which usually are given only once in life).
