K. Mohanakumar is the former Dean and Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), India. With more than 46 years of research experience and 32 years of postgraduate teaching, his expertise encompasses atmospheric dynamics, stratosphere–troposphere interactions, monsoon meteorology, atmospheric waves, and climate variability. He has published extensively in these fields and has made significant contributions to atmospheric science through both research and teaching.

The first edition of Stratosphere–Troposphere Interactions: An Introduction received the prestigious ASLI Choice Award in 2008 and has subsequently been translated into Russian and Chinese. Professor Mohanakumar is the recipient of the National Award for Excellence in Atmospheric Science and Technology, conferred by the Government of India, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to atmospheric science.
