Geologic Hydrogen: Genesis, Exploration, and Potential
Pedro Maciel de Paula Garcia
This book presents a wide range of information focused on the practical aspects to understand where geologic (natural or white) hydrogen is found, how it can be found, and how it is formed. Building on the important contributions of previous studies, crucial aspects of this energy resource are discussed. Furthermore, insights drawn from many areas within and related to Geosciences are provided. Areas within Geology include Geochemistry, Petroleum Geology, Economic Geology, Geotectonics, Geophysics, Hydrogeology, among others. Also, knowledge from Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and multiple areas of Engineering is taken into account. Going beyond a compilation of scientific articles and technical reports, this book aims to be both an opening door for those seeking an introduction to geologic hydrogen and a resource for deepening discussions about it. So, special attention was given to representative models, tectonic correlations, proposals to simplify the essential components of the natural hydrogen system, and possibilities for expanding its exploration.
Prof. Pedro Maciel de Paula Garcia is an Economic Geology Professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT, Brazil) and also serves as a Collaborator Professor at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA, Brazil) and Queen’s University (Canada). During his master's and PhD, he investigated hydrothermal and orthomagmatic copper ores hosted by mafic-ultramafic rocks. His research, developed with several national and international partners, has been focusing mainly on the association between Tectonics and Metallogeny across a myriad of mineral systems. Additionally, research in other areas includes Geochemistry, Geosciences Education, Environmental Geology, Remote Sensing, History of Geosciences, Geomythology, Hydrothermal processes in Sedimentary Basins, and CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) in basalts. He serves as series editor for two book series published by Springer Nature and as guest editor for relevant international journals in Geology and related disciplines.
