International Trade Policy for Guyana
A Multilateral Overview
Colin J. Luckie | Dianna DaSilva-Glasgow
This book analyzes Guyana’s trade policy, offering new insights into its trade structure and the legal and institutional frameworks that shape its position in global markets. It serves as a comprehensive resource for readers seeking reliable insight into Guyana’s participation in international trade.
The book begins with an overview of Guyana’s trade governance system, examining the laws, institutions, and procedures that guide trade policy. It then assesses trade performance before and after independence, highlighting major trends in exports, imports, and market orientation. Subsequent chapters examine Guyana’s commitments under key international agreements, including sanitary and phytosanitary measures and technical barriers to trade, and consider their implications for domestic regulation and compliance.
Equipped with sector-specific analyses of various case studies from agriculture, forestry, trade in services, manufacturing, and extractive industries, the book explores each sector’s contribution to trade flows and economic growth. It provides practical insights into Guyana’s trade landscape, international obligations, and the challenges and opportunities that continue to shape its role in global trade.
