Corrosion and Environmental Degradation

Proceedings of the 65th Conference of Metallurgy & Materials, COM 2026

The Metallurgy and Materials Society of CIM

Technology & Engineering / Materials Science / Metals & Alloys

The Proceedings offers a focused examination of the mechanisms, modeling, and mitigation of material degradation across metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites. The volume presents current advances in theoretical and computational approaches to corrosion, alongside experimental studies that elucidate both general and localized corrosion behavior and the metallurgical and chemical‑mechanical interactions that drive failure.

Chapters also address emerging methods in corrosion sensing and advanced characterization, highlighting tools that enable earlier detection and more accurate assessment of degradation processes. Application‑oriented discussions explore the implications of corrosion in energy and power systems, fuel transportation infrastructure, manufacturing environments, and biomass or chemical‑processing industries.

The Metallurgy and Materials Society: Metallurgists have been active in the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) since its inception in 1898. In 1945, the Metallurgy Division was formed to reflect the group’s technical interests. Constituted as a society in 1967, MetSoc has grown to become one of the premier global organizations serving the international metallurgy and materials community. Its annual Conference of Metallurgists (COM) is a preeminent event on the international metallurgy meeting calendar. In partnership with sister societies, MetSoc is also a lead organizer of key world-class conference series such as Nickel-Cobalt, Copper and Lead-Zinc.
