This book features a selection of the best papers accepted for presentation and discussion at the 2026 International Conference in Information Systems and Medicine (ICISMED26). Held from March 26 to 28, 2026, ICISMED26 is a multidisciplinary conference with a particular focus on emerging technologies and systems in the healthcare sector. The event was supported by the Autonomous University of Chile in Temuco and the International Association for Digital Transformation and Technological Innovation (IADITI).
This book is intended for researchers, academics, lecturers, specialists, professionals, doctoral and master's students, undergraduates, and practitioners working at the intersection of healthcare and information technologies. The book addresses foundational and advanced concepts related to the paradigm of intelligent computing and communication within the context of distributed computing, big data, high-performance computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), specifically applied to healthcare. This book serves as both a practical reference for industry professionals and a foundational guide for beginners.
The ICISMED26 Scientific Committee comprises a multidisciplinary panel of 120 experts who reviewed 104 submissions from 18 countries, addressing the conference's main thematic areas:

All accepted papers have been published by Springer and will be submitted for indexing in ISI, Scopus, EI-Compendex, Google Scholar, and SpringerLink.
Iván Suazo Galdames completed his Ph.D. in Morphology from the Federal University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), Master in Neurosciences and Behavioural Biology from the Pablo de Olavide University (Spain) and Dental Surgeon from the University of Chile (Chile). He has been a professor of Morphology at Chilean and foreign Universities, and he is a member of the SINPOS research group (Peripheral Nervous System and Sense Organs) at the University of Oviedo. He has more than a hundred publications in international scientific journals, author of 4 books and has been professor of Master and Ph.D. programmes in his speciality, and he is an editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Medical and Surgical Sciences and the European Journal of Health Research. He is currently a vice rector of Research and Doctorates at the Autonomous University of Chile.
António Abreu completed a post-doctorate in Information Technologies and Systems at the Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra. He is an associate professor at the Porto Accounting and Business School/Polytechnic University of Porto (Portugal). He holds a Ph.D. in Software Engineering based on reusable components with Human–Machine Interface applications from the University of Vigo, a Master in Management Informatics by the University of Minho, and a Degree in Informatics Applied Mathematics from Lusíada University. He is Integrated researcher at the Research Centre CEOS.PP—Centre for Organizational and Social Studies of the Polytechnic of Porto. Between 2015 and 2018, he was a coordinator of the Professional Higher Technical Courses (CTeSP) at the Higher Institute of Accounting and Administration of Porto (ISCAP) and a coordinator for Market Development at the Training Centre and Services Abroad of ISCAP.
João Vidal Carvalho completed a post-doctorate in Technologies and Information Systems at the University of Coimbra. He is an associate professor at the Porto Accounting and Business School/Polytechnic University of Porto (Portugal). He holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems and Technology from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Master in Information Technology Management from the University of Minho and Degree in Informatics/Applied Mathematics from the Portucalense University. Between 2020 and 2022, he serves as a vice director of the Research Centre for Organizational and Social Studies of the Polytechnic of Porto (CEOS.PP). He serves as a vice president of IADITI—International Association for Digital Transformation and Technological Innovation. He has served as a general chair of the International Conference in Information Systems and Medicine (ICISMED), the International Conference on Tourism, Technologies and Systems (ICOTTS) and the International Conference on Information Technologies and Education (ICITED).
Raul Alberto Cordeiro holds a degree in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing (1995) from the Maria Fernanda Resende Higher School of Nursing, Lisbon, and completed his Ph.D. in Health Sciences and Technologies—Human and Social Development from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and a post-doctorate in Health Care Sciences from the Federal Fluminense University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has a Master's degree in School Health from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (2003). He is an associate professor at the Polytechnic University of Portalegre in the Higher School of Health (ESS-IPP). He works in the areas of Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, Clinical Management and Leadership in Health, Quality of Mental Health Care, Mental Health in the Workplace and in Organizations, Human and Social Development throughout life. He is the Sub-coordinator of CARE—Research Centre on Health and Social Sciences.
Rui Silva holds a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Beira Interior (Covilhã, Portugal). He is an associate professor with Habilitation at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), belonging to the Department of Economics, Sociology and Management (DESG) of the School of Human and Social Sciences (ECHS), where he teaches several course units on the Bachelor's degrees in Management, Economics and Tourism, the Master's degree in Management, and the Doctoral Programme in Development, Societies and Territories. The course units he teaches are: Financial Accounting I and II, Management Accounting, Management Control, Data Analysis, and Investment Projects. He is the director of the Master's degree in Management and Chair of UTAD’s Gender Equality Committee. He is a senior researcher at the Centre for Transdisciplinary Development Studies (CETRAD), and has published in several scientific journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus.
