RegTech and the Future of Central Banking

Navigating Sustainability and Innovation in Financial Regulation

Ibrahim Nandom Yakubu

Business & Economics / Corporate Finance / General

This book offers a timely and interdisciplinary examination of how regulatory technology (RegTech) is transforming central banking and financial regulation amid rapid digitalisation and growing sustainability imperatives. Moving beyond conventional treatments of RegTech as a private-sector compliance tool, it positions central banks and regulators as strategic actors in data-driven financial governance. The book explores how artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, distributed ledger technology, big data analytics, real-time reporting, and programmable compliance are reshaping monetary policymaking, prudential supervision, financial stability, and digital-currency oversight. It also examines regulatory sandboxes, innovation hubs, cybersecurity, climate-risk supervision, ESG integration, sustainable finance, digital assets, and central bank digital currencies. Case studies from developed and emerging economies illustrate regulatory innovation and institutional adaptation. Addressing algorithmic bias, data fragmentation, capacity constraints, interoperability, and cross-border coordination, the book is essential reading for scholars, postgraduate students, policymakers, central bankers, regulators, supervisors, financial institutions, technology practitioners, and global institutions.
