Science / Physics / General

Securing Multimedia in the Age of Deepfakes provides a comprehensive, end-to-end treatment of multimedia security, covering deepfake and synthetic media detection, digital forensics, adversarially robust AI, watermarking, fingerprinting, content provenance, authenticated media pipelines, and post-quantum cryptography. It addresses image, video, and audio security while examining evidence handling, chain of custody, datasets, evaluation metrics, source attribution, secure storage, real-time streaming, and cryptographic signing.

The book explains how spatial, temporal, spectral, and metadata-based signals can be combined to detect, authenticate, and attribute manipulated content. It presents practical approaches for defending against evasion and data-poisoning attacks, conducting red-team evaluations, and establishing trusted media workflows through hashing, watermarking, digital signatures, and content authenticity frameworks. It also examines hybrid classical and post-quantum security architectures, including their performance, interoperability, and deployment trade-offs.

Designed for researchers, postgraduate students, educators, cybersecurity professionals, forensic analysts, and security engineers, the book connects foundational concepts with implementation-oriented methods and real-world applications. Readers will gain practical frameworks for developing, evaluating, and deploying multimedia security systems that remain trustworthy amid rapid advances in generative AI and quantum computing.

Dr. Yashas Hariprasad is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at California State University, East Bay, where his research and teaching focus on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital forensics, and quantum-safe communication. He is also an MBA Candidate at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, and a Berkeley Haas Forté Fellow. His research spans deepfake detection, AI-driven cybersecurity, quantum-safe video encryption, digital trust, and responsible innovation. His scholarly work has appeared in IEEE, ACM, Elsevier, Springer Nature, and The Conversation. He has published more than 35 research papers and authored two books, including Artificial Intelligence in Practice: Theory and Applications for Cyber Security and Forensics. Prior to joining CSUEB, Dr. Hariprasad conducted U.S. Army-funded research at Florida International University’s Center of Excellence in Digital Forensics, advancing AI-based approaches for detecting manipulated media and securing digital video systems. Before academia, he served as a Security Risk Analyst at VMware, working on enterprise cybersecurity and risk management. His honors include a U.S. Department of Defense Medal of Appreciation and the FIU Presidential Award. He has delivered invited talks, organized workshops, held leadership roles, and mentored students across academic levels. His work reflects a commitment to secure, responsible, and human-centered technological innovation.

Prof. Dr. S.S. Iyengar is Distinguished University Professor, Founding Director of the Discovery Lab, and Director of the U.S. Army-funded Center of Excellence in Digital Forensics at Florida International University. In 2025, he was honored as the “Founding Father of AI Science in Digital Forensics” by the Soft Computing Research Society and received the Distinguished Career Award in Computer Science. He is widely known for the Brooks–Iyengar distributed sensing algorithm. He has published more than 600 research papers, authored or edited 32 books, holds multiple patents, and has supervised more than 65 Ph.D. students. Dr. Iyengar is recognized among the world’s top 2% cited scientists and has received numerous distinctions, including the IEEE Cybermatics Congress Test of Time Award, and multiple Lifetime Achievement Awards. He holds four honorary Doctor of Science degrees and is a Life Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of ACM, AAAS, NAI, AIMBE, SDPS, and the Washington Academy of Sciences, as well as a member of the European Academy of Sciences and the European Academy of Arts and Sciences. His research has been supported by NSF, DARPA, ONR, DOE, NASA, the U.S. Army, and other agencies. He has also served as a visiting professor or scientist at institutions including Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Naval Research Laboratory, and the University of Paris-Sorbonne.

Prasad B. Honnavalli is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering whose research and academic interests span information security, computer networks, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things.
