This image-rich book approaches silica aerogel as an optical medium and an archive of light: pseudo-skies, nebular light, horizon states, and skyprints become engineered conditions in which material perception is staged, stored, and reactivated. It is the fourth and final volume of four related monographs exploring silica aerogel nanoscience through a free-dimensional artistic practice and represents the optical and archival culmination of the project. The volume moves through phosphorescent nebulae, skymimesis, pseudo-skies, lunar projects, and skyprints, concluding with an image-only chapter/epilogue that functions as a visual argument. Building upon the artist’s developments at MIT and experiments associated with NASA/JPL, it examines how silica aerogel can capture, transform, and reactivate experiences of the sky. Through process-aware discussion and an extensive visual archive, the book presents silica aerogel not only as a nanomaterial but as a medium of memory, perception, and afterlife.
