The tropical coastal landscape remains a key environment for human development and support. The tropical coastal landscape offers vast scope for researchers to deal with the dynamics of coast building in the Anthropocene, including special insights into socio-economic heterogeneity and environmental hazards or crises. A succinct overview of this type of region is needed, comprising its geomorphic structure, its historical progression, its ecological and economic value, its challenges and the livelihood of people. This book contributes to a better understanding of the entangled constellation of climate change and geo-environmental dynamics together with diverse socio-economic aspirations and ecological fragility.
The book places considerable and foremost emphasis on characterizing tropical coastal regions in terms of their hydro-geomorphic dynamics on one hand, and on the other hand, it concentrates on the impact of geomorphic processes on human and land use changes. This book may help students and researchers to grasp a holistic understanding of the environment, ecology, economy and society of tropical coastal landscapes. Additionally, social and environmental scientists, especially geographers, anthropologists, sociologists, regional planners, public administrators and policymakers may find this work useful.
