Towards Decolonized Pedagogies

Reflections on Emerging Theories in Zimbabwe

Kelvin Chikonzo | Pauline Mateveke | Ezra Chitando

Education / General

This book aims to decolonize academic discourse by presenting and critiquing theories and methodologies developed by Zimbabwean scholars. It highlights the efforts of these scholars to challenge and question colonial ideas, promoting a diverse theoretical base informed by Critical Pedagogy and Indigenous perspectives. The volume also showcases the contributions of Zimbabwean women scholars who utilize Critical Feminist Theory to provide liberative insights in education. By consolidating intellectual capital from both home-based and diasporan scholars, the book seeks to build a comprehensive corpus of Zimbabwean-origin theories, addressing the need for locally generated frameworks to explain Zimbabwean experiences.

Kelvin Chikonzo is Associate Professor of Theatre/Performance and Film at the University of Zimbabwe.

Pauline Mateveke is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Languages, Literature and Culture at the University of Zimbabwe.

Ezra Chitando is Professor in the History of Religions at the University of Zimbabwe.
