However, pipeline surfaces are continuously exposed to impurities and corrosion, and environmental toxicity limits the use of commercial corrosion inhibitors to reduce corrosion damage. This book introduces effective, sustainable alternatives and provides an overview of recent advances in corrosion management. Organized into two parts, the first covers the fundamentals of corrosion, including types of corrosion, control methods, environmental influences, material selection, and economic considerations. The second part focuses on specific inhibitors to various kinds of corrosion, including sweet and sour corrosion, refinery operations, high-temperature environments, microbiologically influenced corrosion, vapor-phase inhibitors, and smart controlled-release systems. Additionally, it highlights the application of machine learning in corrosion management.

Sustainable Corrosion Inhibitors for the Oil and Gas Industry is aimed at a broad audience and is a valuable resource for practicing engineers, applied chemists, researchers, and graduate students in corrosion engineering, process engineering, oil and gas engineering, and related fields, and serves as a user-friendly guide for product design, process development, and material selection.

Provides an in-depth look at sustainable inhibitor applications for solving oil and gas industry corrosion challenges;

Explains the impacts of corrosion on the environment, sustainability, governance (ESG), and economies;

Explains machine learning, material selection, and AI use in the oil and gas industries in an easy-to-understand way.

Omotayo Sanni, D.Eng., is a researcher in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria, where she collaborates with a multidisciplinary team.
