Research on sustainable management of insect species has remained largely in demand, especially when focused on insects of agricultural importance. Practices of sustainable pest management have been recognized since ancient times; however, there is still a pressing need for further studies that underscore its significance.

"Updates and Novel Approaches in Sustainable Pest Management: Case studies from Brazil" addresses this gap by offering original research chapters that deliver concise and precise updates, featuring groundbreaking studies on the latest advancements in each area of research. The book is divided into two sections: the first provides an overview of control methods from a general perspective, while the second section delves into applied case studies specific to particular insect species.

This comprehensive approach ensures that readers gain both a broad understanding of sustainable pest management practices and detailed insights into specific cases. By bridging the gap between theory and application, "Updates and Novel Approaches in Sustainable Pest Management: Case studies from Brazil" serves as a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers dedicated to advancing sustainable practices in agriculture and beyond.

Francisco de Sousa Ramalho received his B.Sc. in Agronomy from the Federal University of Paraíba, Brazil, in 1972, his M.Sc. in Entomology from the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ), University of São Paulo, Brazil, in 1975, and his Ph.D. in Entomology from Mississippi State University, USA, in 1983. He is currently a Researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA). His research focuses on Agricultural Entomology, with emphasis on cotton pests, predator–prey interactions, the cotton boll weevil, insect ecology, parasitoids, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in cotton.

Jéssica Karina da Sílva Pachú holds a B.Sc. in Agroecology and a B.Sc. in Agronomy from the State University of Paraíba (UEPB), an M.Sc. in Agroecology and Rural Development from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), and a Ph.D. in Entomology from the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (ESALQ), University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. During her doctoral studies, she was a visiting research student at Mississippi State University, USA. Her research interests include Agricultural Entomology, biological control of insect pests, applied ecology, plant–insect interactions, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), plant electrophysiology under biotic stress, plant defense mechanisms, and ecological data analysis using R.

Silvio Lisboa de Souza Júnior holds a degree in Agronomy from the Federal University of Paraíba (2022) and a Master’s degree in Agronomy from the same institution (2024). He conducted research and extension activities focused on selecting crop species adapted to semi-arid environments. During his Master's studies, he conducted research in Agricultural Entomology, focusing on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with an emphasis on coffee and sugarcane pests. His current doctoral research focuses on Integrated Pest Management and the use of bio-inputs for sustainable agriculture, drawing on experience in statistical modeling and data analysis applied to Agricultural Entomology.

Luiz Fernando de Santana Santos holds a technical degree in agricultural production (UFRN) and a degree in Agronomy (UFPB), Brazil. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in the Graduate Program in Entomology (UFRPE). His research focuses on agricultural entomology, application technology, and biological inputs (bio-inputs), with an emphasis on Integrated Pest Management involving the evaluation of entomopathogenic bacteria and fungi. His research interests also include statistical modeling, data analysis applied to agricultural entomology, and machine learning.

José Bruno Malaquias earned his degree in Agronomy from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), graduating with academic distinction. He holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in Entomology (ESALQ-USP). Subsequently, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Biostatistics at the Institute of Biosciences (IBB/UNESP) and served as a visiting postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Entomology at the University of Arizona, USA. He also holds a specialization in Education and Technologies: Games and Gamification in Education (UFSCar). He is currently an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Areia Campus. He is a permanent professor of the Graduate Program in Agronomy (PPGAgro/UFPB) and the Graduate Program in Entomology at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (PPG Entomology/UFRPE). His research focuses on sustainable pest management strategies, insect bioecology, and modeling the risk of arthropod resistance evolution to pest management tactics. He has collaborated extensively on developing, applying, and optimizing quantitative and computational analytical methods in Entomology. He is an active member of the Entomological Society of Brazil (SEB) and holds a CNPq Research Productivity Fellowship.
