Business & Economics / Human Resources & Personnel Management

Colonialism is a red thread that connects the economic experience of young people across large portions of Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, as well as their diaspora, particularly those countries with a common colonial master, the United Kingdom. The groundbreaking edited volume is a reflection on youth empowerment and decolonisation, observed through the lens of employability, entrepreneurship and higher education. Researchers from the Caribbean, Pakistan , Africa and the UK bring together the fruit from an international interview-based research project into a powerful narrative of persistent challenges, opportunities and hope for the future.Individual chapters explore topics including digital technologies, the platform economy, social enterprise, migrant entrepreneurship, all within the framework of decolonial theory. Historical institutional power structures and processes are identified and indigenous solutions are offered. The volume highlights some of the innovative and place-centred approaches, which characterise contemporary youth empowerment and that are reclaiming the future for people in the global south. It will be of great interest to students and scholars of work and employment, entrepreneurship, gender and decolonisation in management studies.
