Besides the classical theory, a new intrinsic metric state variable is introduced, different from the metric tensor and from classical non-intrinsic strain measures. It leads to an intrinsic material theory, consistent with the uncontested Eulerian tools. The main known Lagrangian and material theories appear as various approximations of this new theory.
