It explains the specific processes and methods that support the implementation of APQP. While APQP provides a structured framework, many of its methods, tools, and techniques, such as Process FMEA, have been established in industrial practice for more than 60 years. It also highlights the common thread running through the five phases of the APQP model described in the standard. In particular, the author discusses a distinction between the APQP process for MAKE and BUY. The extremely important and numerous interfaces between the MAKE and BUY paths are highlighted. Examples and tips are also provided for pure production companies that follow externally specified designs (build to print) or companies with their own product-related design activities (build to spec). In addition, special features of the various triggers for the APQP process (NPI – MOD – ToW) are discussed. These practical tips and examples support companies in implementing DIN EN 9145 within their product development processes.

Frank Juergler, Dipl.-Ing., studied Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Manufacturing Technology at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Over the course of his career, he has gained more than three decades of experience in Quality Planning, Quality Management, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Supplier Development, and Process Improvement across the automotive and aerospace industries. He began his professional career with automotive suppliers, where he worked in Quality Planning and Quality Management, including responsibilities as a Design and Process FMEA specialist, and participated in numerous APQP projects. In 2005, he joined Airbus, serving in positions including Lead Supply Chain and Quality Manager, Supply Chain Quality Specialist, and Lead Assessor for Industrial Process Control Assessment. His work focused on supplier development and the implementation of APQP principles throughout the global supply chain. Today, he advises companies in the Aerospace Industryon implementing advanced quality planning and quality management methods, with a particular focus on APQP. He is the author of several technical books on Quality Planning, Quality Management, and systematic Problem Solving, published by Springer.

Publication Date:

11 November 2026

Publisher:

Springer Berlin Heidelberg

Imprint:

Springer

ISBN-13:

9783662743577

Format:

Hardback
