Applying critical globalization, decolonial, postcolonial and feminist approaches, her work addresses issues of justice and power in education and its governance. Prior to teaching in comparative and international education, teacher education and international development studies at the University of Sydney, Dr. McCormick worked as an educator in primary and secondary schools and non-formal education contexts in Australia, China and Japan, and gained a Master of International Studies. She has led Undergraduate and Master of Education programmes, served as Associate Dean (Postgraduate Coursework) for the University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and worked with non-government and international development agencies. Central to Dr de Rivera’s research is the idea of cognitive justice—what, or whose knowledge, is emphasised or neglected in the process of policy transfer.
