Social Care for Disabled Elderly in Urban China: Resources, Service Delivery, and Policy Implications

Li, Yan

This book focuses on the social care resources and service delivery for the disabled elderly in urban China and aims to explore the important issues about the roles of community to link diverse resources for supporting disabled elderly who are a rapidly expanding but vulnerable group in China. Furthermore, this book applies the qualitative research methods which are applied in this research for first-hand data collection and analysis. It investigates issues concerning lack of caregiving resources inside and outside of families for disabled elderly, the current model to deliver services, and the multiple social subjects to provide support from a perspective of resilience with respect to enhancing the quality of social care services among disabled elderly, and this is also the only book that highlights the key issue of targeted service model for the different recipients of caregiving services who are disabled elderly but with different care demands in China, which has rarely been discussed in previous studies. This book also discusses the social care issues of disabled elderly under China’s recently reformed long-term care insurance and analyses the roles and impacts of the new long-term care insurance for disabled elderly which has been piloted since 2016 in China.
