The book systematically integrates perioperative anesthesia strategies with nutritional optimization across the entire surgical pathway. Written by an interdisciplinary team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinical nutritionists, dietitians, perioperative nurses, and allied health professionals to provide a unified, evidence-based framework for enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) implementation. It explains the physiological basis of surgical stress and recovery, details how anesthetic techniques such as regional anesthesia, multimodal and opioid sparing analgesia interact with carbohydrate loading, early enteral feeding, and glycemic control, and presents specialty-specific ERAS pathways in colorectal, cardiac, and orthopedic surgery, along with approaches for high-risk and emergency cases.
The book combines state of the art evidence with practical protocols, algorithms, checklists, case scenarios, and quality indicators to support hospitals at all stages of ERAS implementation. It also looks ahead to personalized, data driven recovery through biomarkers, pharmacogenomics, digital health, and AI enabled monitoring.
It is essential for anesthesiologists, surgeons, clinical nutritionists, intensivists, perioperative nurses, and allied health professionals who seek an integrated, practical resource to optimize outcomes for surgical patients in diverse clinical settings.
