This book also explores conjunction and optimization of remediation techniques and provides a wide spectrum of topics such as sources of pollution, transport pathways, and possible cross-media contamination.

Emerging contaminants have been a concern for researchers across the globe. However, the lack of elaborate information about the sources, fate and associated health hazards are a major challenge to prevent and mitigate emerging contaminants into the environment. Emerging contaminants include viruses, bacteria, microplastics, personal care and pharmaceutical products, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, endocrine-disrupting compounds, industrial chemicals, cosmetics, and pesticides. The release of industrial effluents into the environment with partial or without treatment leads to a rise in the concentration levels of emerging contaminants. These contaminants can persist in the environment for a long duration and can bioaccumulate in the food chain, creating potential hazards for biotic components of our ecological niche. Therefore, the development of sustainable and cost-effective remediation approaches is required to reduce environmental footprints in the air, water and soil nexus. This book is of interest to researchers, policymakers, public health professionals, veterinarians, industry professionals, and educators.

Dr. Saurabh Shukla is an environmental engineer and researcher currently serving as Adjunct Research Faculty at the Centre for Research Impact & Outcome, Chitkara University, Punjab, India.
