The book examines the industrial landscape through three key lenses: competitiveness and productivity, inclusive growth for the small-scale and labour-intensive sectors, and sustainable industrialisation. The 15 contributions in the volume are evidence-based, drawing on a variety of firm-level datasets and analytical techniques, providing rich insights for future policy towards creating a manufacturing ecosystem that is more competitive, inclusive, job-creating, and environmentally responsible. The book is forward-looking as it analyses contemporary issues such as GVC integration, innovative activities, import competition, FDI inflows, e-commerce, energy efficiency, business responsibility, and sustainability reporting (BRSR) to offer policy prescriptions for the future. It is, thus, a valuable resource for academics, industry leaders, and policymakers.

Nagesh Kumar is Director of the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi, India.
