This handbook focuses comprehensively on theory and practice of wireless positioning. It covers a wide range of non-GNSS positioning techniques, including five radio positioning techniques (WiFi and Bluetooth, Ultra-wide Band, RFID, Cellular Network, and Pseudo-satellite), four non-radio positioning techniques (Acoustic, Vision, Visible light, and Magnetic), and three specific positioning approaches which use radio, non-radio or integrated option (Inertial navigation system, Device free localization, and Machine learning enhanced positioning). All chapters are written by experts in the field of wireless positioning. This handbook presents both fundamentals and in-depth studies as well as practical examples in wireless positioning, so it is suited for beginners, experienced researchers and practicing engineers.
This is the first reference book on wireless positioning, which deals with nearly all the major non-GNSS positioning techniques. Readers can find the contents within scope of their expertise for further studies, or they can choose chapters of their interests to commence new studies or investigations.
Kegen Yu is currently Distinguished Professor in the School of Environment Science and Spatial Informatics at China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), Xuzhou, China. He received his bachelor's degree from Changchun Geological College (now Jilin University), Changchun, China, in 1983; master’s degree from Australian National University, Canberra, Australia, in 1999; and Ph.D. degree from the University of Sydney, Australia, in 2003. Prof. Yu has worked for universities and research organizations in Australia, China, and Finland, including UNSW, CSIRO, Wuhan University, and Oulu University. He participated in a number of research and development projects, as Task Leader or Principal Investigator, including projects funded by National Key Research and Development Program of China, NSFC, European Commission, Australian government, and industry such as Boeing. His research focuses on the fields of positioning, navigation, and remote sensing. Prof. Yu was awarded Hubei Provincial “One Hundred Talents Program” and received the honor of Distinguished Expert of Hubei Province in 2015. He has co-authored and edited 7 English books published by Wiley and IEEE Press, Springer Nature, and Science Press. He also coauthored more than 140 SCI journal papers, most of which are in top-tier journals such as IEEE TGRS, IEEE TVT, IEEE IOT Journal, IEEE TMC and IEEE TWC. He was ranked in the world's top 2% most-cited scientists list for career-long contributions (2024) and single-year impact (2023,2024) by Stanford University and Elsevier.
E. S. Lohan is a professor in wireless positioning field at the Wireless Research Center at Tampere University (TAU) and the leader of signal processing for wireless positioning (TLTPOS) research group at TAU. She is a co-editor of the first book on Galileo satellite system (Springer "Galileo Positioning technology"), co-editor of a book on "Multi-technology positioning", and author or co-author in more than 300 international peer-reviewed publications. Her research interests are related to GNSS, indoor and 5G/6G-based positioning, tracking and navigation for intelligent and automated machines, RF fingerprinting and interference mitigation and management in wireless navigation receivers, SLAM and ISAC-related research, and LEO-based navigation solutions.
