This book identifies potential mitigation measures for energy poverty and the impact of climate change. In recent years, energy poverty (EP) studies have gained significant prominence in the scientific literature. Numerous research groups have focused their efforts on analyzing this socioeconomic problem, which combines technical aspects with social issues. This has allowed the field of knowledge to advance rapidly. However, this progress has not considered the gender dimension of energy poverty. Although the feminization of poverty has been discussed since the late twentieth century, the impact of this feminization on energy poverty has not been widely observed. This issue is particularly noteworthy in Spain, where the lack of research on energy poverty is compounded by the existing gender dimension. Therefore, this book addresses these challenges, focusing its analysis on the Granada Metropolitan Area. The analysis was based on an urban study of the region. It was further complemented by identifying potential mitigation measures for energy poverty and the impact of climate change. The results highlight the importance of the gender dimension in this socioeconomic problem and the significance of the city’s urban characteristics in its development and solution. The conclusions of this study can be extrapolated to other regions with similar characteristics.

Dr. Antonio J. Aguilar is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Granada in the Department of Building Construction, School of Building Engineering. His research area is related to the analysis and evaluation of indoor environmental quality factors in buildings and the development of tools based on the Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodology for the design and management of buildings.

Dr. María Luisa de la Hoz-Torres is an associate professor at the University of Granada in the Department of Architectural Graphic Expression and Engineering. She works on the topic of physical environmental agents in the built environment. Her research focuses on the indoor environmental quality of buildings and how it affects their occupants.

Dr. Susana Clavijo Núñez is a researcher affiliated with the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering at the University of La Laguna. Her research focuses on energy poverty from a just transition perspective, incorporating issues such as gender and citizen participation.

Dr. Antonio Serrano-Jiménez is an associate professor in the Department of Building Construction at the University of Granada. His research focuses on housing renovation, urban regeneration, multi-criteria decision-making, environmental quality in the built environment, and resource management in construction. He has published over 25 articles in Q1 journals (JCR/SJR), with more than 700 citations (Scopus), and serves as a reviewer for high-impact journals in the proposed field.

Dr. David Bienvenido-Huertas is an associate professor in the Department of Building Construction at the University of Granada. His area of expertise covers climate change in the building sector and energy poverty. He is an author of more than 90 research papers, and he is a recognized reviewer of various international indexed journal
