Law, Compliance and Strategy in China

A Cross-Border Guide for International Business.

Hadas Peled | Tehila Levi-Lati

Business & Economics / Business Law

This open access book provides international companies with an integrated legal and strategic business framework for operating in China. Across twelve chapters in five thematic parts, it follows the full lifecycle of foreign business activity: market entry and corporate structuring, negotiation and contracting, e-commerce and data governance, employment, and dispute resolution. Drawing on primary Chinese legislation, policy, and more than eighty case studies, the book bridges the gap between academic scholarship and practitioner guides. It offers the analytical depth of the former and the operational focus of the latter, showing not only what the theory rules but also the practice. It is written for executives, in-house counsel, corporate strategists, researchers, and graduate students who need a clear and analytical guide to China's market.

Dr. Hadas Peled is an international law expert specializing in Chinese law, international business transactions, international trade, and China–Israel economic relations. She holds a Ph.D. in Legal Sciences and an LL.M. in Chinese Law (Best Thesis) from Tsinghua University. With more than 20 years of cross-border legal experience, Dr. Peled has advised multinational corporations, Asian investors, and Israeli startups on commercial transactions across China and other Asian jurisdictions. She teaches Chinese business law and Israel–Asia legal and economic relations at Bar-Ilan University, and contributes to leading academic journals and professional forums.

Adv. Tehila Levi-Lati is a China expert. She has spent nearly 15 years in China, in Shanghai, Chengdu, and Hong Kong, and works in English and Mandarin. She advises multinational companies through the full lifecycle of their China operations: company establishment, JV negotiation, cross-border transactions, inbound and outbound direct investment, and M&A. She also advises Chinese investors abroad. She combines strategic business advice with legal structuring. Tehila is a partner at Sullivan & Worcester LLP, where she heads the firm’s China and East Asia practice. She lectures at academic institutions and professional forums on the legal aspects of doing business in China and writes on Chinese business, law, and regulation.
