Wind–Wave Actions on Long-Span Sea-Crossing Bridges
Analysis, Modeling, and Performance Evaluation
Zilong Ti | Kai Wei
This book presents a systematic framework—integrating field measurements, numerical simulations, and structural dynamics—for analyzing long-span sea-crossing bridges under extreme marine environments, featuring distinctive methodologies such as non-stationary wind-wave modeling, coupled SWAN+ADCIRC simulations, and Copula-based joint probabilistic estimation, all validated with typhoon data from the Pingtan Strait Bridge. Progressing from theory to application, it covers load calculations, substructure hydrodynamics, and full-bridge vibration, while offering a comprehensive workflow from environment characterization to response prediction, thus serving as a balanced, practical reference for researchers, engineers, and students in bridge, coastal, and ocean engineering, with critical guidance for resilient infrastructure design in deep-water, strong-wind regions.
Zilong Ti, Ph.D., is a Professor and Young Changjiang Scholar at the School of Civil Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University. He completed his doctoral studies jointly at Southwest Jiaotong University and UCLA, and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Hong Kong. Prof. Ti’s research interests lie in bridge hydrodynamics, wind engineering, and intelligent construction. He is currently leading several National Natural Science Foundation projects investigating the dynamic performance of sea-crossing bridges under extreme marine conditions. A recipient of the first-class Science and Technology Progress Award (China Association for Science and Technology in Transportation), Prof. Ti has published extensively in leading international journals and serves as an active reviewer for over 20 SCI-indexed publications.
Kai Wei, Ph.D., is a Professor and Vice Director of the State Key Laboratory of Bridge Intelligent and Green Construction at Southwest Jiaotong University. A recipient of the National Youth Talent Program, he serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Civil and Environmental Engineering and a Section Board Member for Sustainability. Prof. Wei obtained his Ph.D. from Tongji University and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Northeastern University. Prof. Wei’s research centers on the hydrodynamics of sea-crossing bridges, deep-water bridge foundations, and structural safety in extreme marine environments. A prolific author, he has published over 100 papers in prestigious journals such as Ocean Engineering, Engineering Structures, and Reliability Engineering & System Safety. His research outcomes have been successfully applied to major infrastructure projects, including the Pingtan Strait Road-Rail Bridge, the Xihoumen Bridge, and the Changtai Yangtze River Bridge. Prof. Wei’s contributions have been recognized with multiple honors, including the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress from the China Communications and Transportation Association.
